With Halloween now in the rear view mirror, the holiday shopping season is officially underway. Last year, mobile accounted for a fifth of holiday e-commerce sales. In 2013, that number is expected to further grow as consumers will be using their mobile devices in new ways as they approach the holidays to find the right products at the right price.
In order to understand how important mobile is in holiday shopping, we ran a survey on our platform to dig deeper into exactly what consumers were doing on their devices as they prepared for the holiday festivities.
Some of the insights we discovered were:
• 55% of consumers begin their holiday shopping after Halloween
• 35% plan to use their devices to research products and 29% will use them make purchases this holiday season
• 40% would request more information about a holiday sale, product, or store after viewing an ad on their mobile device
• Games, clothes, tech, and travel are the top categories for mobile purchases
This data proves that mobile users on our network are preparing for the upcoming holiday season with their mobile devices in hand. It will be important for advertisers to bring mobile to the forefront of their marketing plans to reach consumers during this key period.
